I had a blast working with Ashley Begley to create custom watercolor pieces to set the tone for our Vero Beach, Florida weekend. My husband’s nickname is Sharkman, a play on words to our last name Larkin, so I wanted to subtly incorporate sharks wherever I could find a way! Ashley created our logo of two sharks facing each other (or kissing!) for our save the date, and if you look closely, you can spot two shark stamps. The return envelopes were a fun pop of turquoise, a nod to the very iconic bench at the John’s Island Club that I wanted our guests to be familiar with before they showed up! Able Letterpress printed all of our pieces, and I love the blind embossed EB they did at the top of our invitation. Even though we didn’t end up getting married in Florida, I wanted the invitations photographed as they were an important part of our story. And yes, all of our RSVPs were in, at least everyone got to see these beauties!

My dad surprised us the day before the wedding and had the Westhampton Performing Arts Center put a message on the marquee. At night, it lights up. As you drive through the center of town, you can’t miss it. Things started to feel more real, and the reality continued as the sign was still up a week later!

We both were giddy. It was starting to sink in that we were not changing the date again. The past several months were pretty funny, as was whipping a wedding together in a three week timeframe. Brian wore a pink blazer he bought at Vernon Scott in Vero Beach for our original wedding weekend, and I had this Thurley dress sitting in my closet for a year, unworn. The dress I had ordered didn’t arrive in time, so I was happy I had this as a backup!

We had spent six months quarantining out in Westhampton. It made perfect sense to pivot our game plan and get married out there.

The weather was perfect the Tuesday night before we tied the knot. A Wednesday wedding, why not!?

We decided to keep things simple, and barbecued a delicious surf and turf at my house with our immediate families. We put a table next to the pool, and everything started to sparkle with the sunset, pool lights and candles. I guess you could also call this "Something Blue?"

These wedding bands were ready to rock and roll and be dusted off. My grandmother had gifted me the diamond wedding band she wore from my grandfather, DearPa, who has passed away. I love knowing I will always have a piece of them with me. Brian incorporated sapphires into another band as something blue, and I had Brian's ring engraved with our first dance song, “Can’t get enough of your love” by Barry White.

Since being indoors with many people was not safe, I got ready with just my mom and maid of honor, Jill. She is the sister I never had.

I saw many dresses, but this gorgeous Carolina Herrera gown was one I never forgot. I didn’t think I would go strapless, but I fell in love with the delicate orchids. It was a piece of art! I was at ease and in awe the moment I stepped foot in the new Madison Avenue showroom and worked with Francesca.

Having my grandmother, DearMa, fly from Florida to be at the wedding was not the right option for her health and safety. It was upsetting not having her there, but we FaceTimed her while I was getting ready!

Brian had gifted me this beaded clutch with my married initials on the front and our original April wedding date inside. Little did I know, he worked with the lady to order one with our new September date. It arrived the day before, and I burst into tears when he gave it to me on the wedding morning. We will always cherish 4/25! I guess we can celebrate multiple anniversaries?

Brian gave me these electric Golden Goose shoes the morning of the wedding. I later found out he knocked on the door of one of our neighbors, who is an artist, to draw on the shoes. She accidentally put “Mrs.” on the right shoe and “Larkin” on the left shoe, so it read oppositely. It was too late to change, but the two decided it was actually more unique and fun for others to read when I am sitting and crossing my legs! It was funny to hear the full story–as I was home a few apartments down the hall and had no idea this art magic was happening.

Earrings for my bridesmaids to borrow!

I gave all of my bridesmaids a Roberta Roller Rabbit robe and a handwritten note inside the book The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse . This story beautifully captures the importance of friendship and kindness. Also, couldn't resist the shark totes!

My handsome (soon-to-be) husband! I loved his Martin Greenfield tuxedo. He looked so sharp. I couldn’t wait for him to change into his dapper white dinner jacket too!

Brian got ready with his groomsmen at The Quoque Club. His friends surprised him with champagne and caviar to kick off the day!

Go figure, we both got each other shoes! I gifted Brian a pair of Yeezey sneakers and a surfing coffee table book with a “voucher” on the inside cover to customize his own surfboard at a California surf shop. I accidentally knocked his surfboard into a ceiling fan this summer and made a huge dent!

My dad’s house in Westhampton has a lot of beach-y character. I love the staircase!

Cheeks starting to hurt from smiling so hard!

I love this picture of my dad and me. The white fence reminds me of the Father of the Bride movie!

Teary eyed and ready to walk down the aisle!

I wanted a classic bouquet. This had Lily of the Valley with white freesia and Queen Anne's lace throughout.

I love this picture of Brian and his red Christian Louboutin sole, overlooking the ocean waiting to see me for the first time.

Of course we got rain on our wedding day! However, we will take the good luck!

Our photographer, Tim Willoughby, told us to chuck the umbrellas for a few pictures!

There is a high chance I am singing Alanis Morrisette right about now... “It’s like rain on your wedding day."

Pictures on the beach were not in the cards with the rain, so we did some fun ones by the beach lockers and the Round Room bar where we have many Southsides!
28 of 75
Our family friends, Ally and Stacey, were sweet and orchestrated getting Ally’s orange Ford Bronco to La Ronde Beach Club after our first look. It was too rainy to drive to our ceremony, but it was fun to hop in and pretend we were about to hit the aisle!

LFG! I was ready to get married and did a victory twirl when I saw my bridesmaids for the first time!

For our Florida wedding, the bridesmaids were picking their own dresses in citrus shades: orange, yellow, pink. When plans changed, I told them to wear whatever they had. Time was ticking, so it was the least of my worries; I wanted them all happy! Some girls went the blue/turquoise route, and it came out quite perfectly and even matched our dinner plates! Dresses were from Diane von Furstenberg, Hemant and Nandita, Misa, Banjanan, Faithful the Brand, and Yumi Kim. They all looked glamorous!

Although an odd request to have everyone whip out their tuxedos in the middle of the pandemic, the groomsmen commented on how fun it was to finally get ready for an occasion. No one had dressed up in months! They all looked like hunks, especially my guy in the middle.

Moments before becoming...Mr. and Mrs. Larkin!

Just told the flower girl there will be Oreos at the end of the aisle...

We had masks for everyone to take at the ceremony. I love how cheery the patterns looked in the baskets and wanted guests to feel they could spruce up their outfit. Some guests hijacked a few!
35 of 75
Things were a bit touch and go with the weather, but the rain stopped moments before the ceremony started. The seats were wiped dry, and we were ready to go. I wanted the ceremony to feel garden-like and natural with clay pots and woven baskets and I love how the greenery on the two pillars made a subtle arch. I was a bit skeptical about using this space for our ceremony, but I was blown away with how it turned out!

The sweetest flower girls, Annie and Martha, with my Maid of Honor, Jill! They had five extra months to practice!

Finally showtime!

Our maid of honor and best man stood with us on the altar. I love this picture of my brother reading a prayer for our wedding. My dad and brother met Brian for the first time at the Westhampton Country Club, so our change of location had meaning as well.

No turning back now.

Literally on Cloud 9! The ceremony felt like a wild dream.

Since capacity for gatherings was strict, we decided to extend an invite to other wedding guests in the area to do a drive by after the ceremony! The original plan was to have our bridal party meander over to cocktail hour, but they stuck around and cheered us on. It was fun to see other friends and family, all honking in excitement for us. Some had balloons and signs!

We passed out black and white cookies from the Beach Bakery in town to our drive-by guests! I told you I wanted the shark logo to appear wherever I could find a place!

Our getaway car/sunset chaser!

First quiet moment as husband and wife driving in from the eighteenth hole to meet everyone at cocktail hour. Sunset was starting to peak through!

We had rain and shine! I couldn’t believe the gorgeous sunset.

Our stunning moms! Pure joy and happiness.

The whole gang, just missing Brian’s sister Kathleen, her husband, and daughter Megan who unfortunately were unable to make it from the West Coast.

How cute is my marvelous mom Marnie!? I loved her dress she had custom made by Lyn Kohls in New Jersey.

Our specialty cocktails were Mount Gay Southsides and tequila sodas with muddled grapefruit, orange, and lime! The shark logo obviously making another appearance and Landshark lagers!

Our third wedding date was the charm! For cocktail hour we had a pizza oven going, buffalo chicken bites, mini meatloaf with mashed potatoes and other fun appetizers. Everything was passed with a COVID-friendly mindset in single serve dishes to make it easy and comfortable for guests to take. We had napkins made with other sayings, “Lark(in)Love,” “9.9 you’re fine,” and “Love is Patient.”
53 of 75
We used a coffee table book filled with photographs of sharks for guests to sign. It was fun to flip through the pages and read the notes after we came down from our wedding high.

Amber Moon helped create these fun matchbooks using our logo and the raspberry watercolor stripes from our invitation envelope insert!

Since we only had seven tables, we could get creative and named them after our favorite NYC restaurants. Guests opened their envelope to the actual business card from the restaurant (thanks to Brian running around the city to collect the week before!) Our head table was Bobo because that was where we had our first date! We found the orange jingle shells, also referred to as 'mermaid toenails,' when we were on a beach walk at the beginning of the quarantine. It felt fitting to include!

We worked with the local florist Honeysuckle and Roses to bring our flowers to life! I love how each table felt unique with bud vases of dahlias, ranunculuses, anemones, peonies, and roses. The dahlias were insane!

The natural chargers and blue and pearl tumblers came from Ark rentals. I found the tortoise shell napkin ring holders on Amazon. Thank you, Prime!

I tapped my MOH’s mom to help me print all of my day of paper materials–ceremony pamphlet, escort envelopes, the restaurant table cards (I spy Pasquale Jones!) and these awesome menus. Her son-in-law designed the edge to be on theme, and we put a nickname for each guest at the top of the menu.

We incorporated India Amory gentle flower tablecloths on our round tables and used the same print in napkins for our rectangle tables. Since this was a very last minute decision, the napkins arrived at 5 pm the day of the wedding. Thankfully everyone was at the ceremony, so no one noticed! I can’t wait to host a dinner party with these block prints!

Brian and I went to Italy after he proposed, and we fell in love with the ceramic plates. It was never going to work to have 250 plates at our original wedding, but when plans changed, I reached out to the owner of Ceramic Assunta in Positano to custom create plates. She designed plates in 6 pastel colors with sharks and our future initials ELB in the center. I love the top hat she put on the groom plate and veil on the bride plate–Sharkman and Sharkwife! I ordered the plates before we set our 9/9 wedding date, and only ordered 40 because I had no idea what capacity would be or what we were actually planning to do. We were short 8 plates, so I had to pull the ones we bought in Italy at our apartment to outfit a table! Now what? I guess our children and grandchildren will eventually get a set!

Funfetti filling, nothing better...

The night felt like a rehearsal dinner meets a concert. It was a long leisurely dinner filled with speeches, music and ended with some dancing!

"Can’t get enough of your love, babe!"

I would have never guessed, not even in a million years, there would be a congo line with masks at our wedding. It was one of the highlights!
66 of 75
Brian and I practiced our first dance moments before we walked into the tent, and he accidentally broke my bustle. I changed into this white eyelet number and pair of Ashley Fox earrings a bit sooner than I thought. I was thankful I had my new sneaks to rock as well! No one knew but us!

I had not danced in a good nine months and was ready to bust out some moves. I did not care how silly I looked!

Kahlúa milkshakes, also known as Hummers, were my grandfather’s favorite drink at the John’s Island Club. We were planning to honor his legacy in April by toasting to him, so we had our new venue make the same recipe so we could raise a glass to him in Heaven and my grandmother who was not able to travel to be with us.

Classic faces. We served funfetti wedding cake and Briermere Farms homemade peach raspberry and strawberry blueberry cream pies which came out on the ceramic shark plates. It was a colorful way to end the night!

My very own James Bond! I love the crooked bowtie and dangerous use of the knife because we didn’t have forks.

Dance partner for life!
72 of 75
Although dancing was not on the run of show, the night turned into some very limited, safe mask dancing. Brian and I ended the night dancing on chairs in our own world. I love this picture of everyone looking at us as we sneak in a last kiss!

The night was simply magical. This sums it up.

2020 was a troubling year for all, but there were definitely bright spots that came out of it including quality time spent with family and friends.
