As fate would have it, former ballerina, model, and psychotherapist Mimi Tompkins ended up falling in love with her brother's college roommate, Harrison Corwin. "Mimi was the enigmatic ballerina that I only knew through social media," Harrison says of how he first came to know her. "Even if he doesn't admit it, her brother set us up—I think he knew we'd be a good match." But Mimi never visited the pair at school, so their first meeting didn't come until years later, at a 2015 house party at her brother's apartment.
After half a decade together, the film production company owner proposed at GoldenEye in Jamaica. "I really didn't have much of a plan," Harrison admits. "I figured we'd go somewhere tropical, and I would find a romantic spot on the beach to pop the question . . . Luckily she said yes!"
Once engaged, Mimi and Harrison worked with planner Nicole Sheppard of Wander Event Design, who helped them find their venue, Troutbeck, after they described the "togetherness," "natural," and "joyful" feelings they wanted on their wedding day. Aesthetically, they let the summer season guide the design. The groom also had a specific inspiration: "My main inspiration in the setting and aesthetic was that I wanted it to feel like the wedding in The Godfather. Just something classic and timeless, that could be seen years from now as traditionally beautiful. We both aren't very flashy people so we didn't want anything that felt over the top."
A rare decisive bride, Mimi says finding her wedding dress didn't take long at all. "I only went to two designers, Danielle Frankel and Mark Ingram, and found everything I needed at those two stops," she says. "With my ballet and modeling background, I've worn so many 'costumes' and fancy looks, so I had a good sense of what I'd feel comfortable in."
The Sasha by Danielle Frankel was her rehearsal dinner dress, while the Macie Top and Rory Pants made up her welcome party look. The next day, Mimi wore a classic Mark Ingram gown. "The bodice reminded me of a tutu, which felt like such a sweet little nod to my ballerina self," Mimi shares. "I paired it with a Danielle Frankel veil with lace trim that draped around my shoulders—I honestly think the veil ended up being one of my favorite details."
As a model, Mimi already knew who to turn to for her beauty team: makeup artist Veronica Velez, who she'd worked with for years and recommended to friends for their own weddings. "For hair, the Pearlita team, Meg and Halle, were amazing to work with. I wanted an updo to keep everything out of the way but still look chic, and they helped me land on the perfect style."
On July 27, 2024, Fig & Squill made the ceremony space feel like a blooming garden. Mimi walked down the aisle with her parents to meet Harrison and their friend Stuart Robertson, who officiated the service. "I knew Mimi would be show stopping," Harrison beams. "I wasn't expecting such nerves and overwhelming emotional gratitude I felt up there. It was a little anxiety producing, and I did let a few tears go, but luckily Mimi held it together for both of us."
Once officially announced as married, the newlyweds joined their loved ones under a sprawling reception tent. The fathers of the bride and groom welcomed everyone with speeches, as did Harrison's best friends, Jonah Feingold and Chris Tompkins—Mimi's brother. "One of the most memorable moments for me was my brother's speech. Since I married his best friend—perhaps a bit of a cliché?—this was his moment to shine and say what he was potentially holding in for years!" Mimi exclaims. "I had expected plenty of jokes and lighthearted teasing about our unique situation, but instead, he delivered a heartfelt speech that struck the perfect balance of humor and love."
Then the band, The Miami Project, highlighted the couple's personality superbly in a set featuring 12 people. Mimi and Harrison shared a first dance to "Sexual Healing" by Marvin Gaye. "As Will Ferrell said, 'Its provocative, it gets the people going,'" Harrison quotes. ", the only request I had was to end the night with 'New York, New York' by Frank Sinatra, and it was everything I could have dreamed of—everyone singing together, locked in arms."
Liron Erel beautifully captured every moment of the day and the dance floor. And after the reception, the party moved into the reception hall with DJ Erick La Peau.
The magic didn't stop there. Mimi and Harrison's honeymoon took them to Spain and France. "We kept tabs on Mallorca because we loved it so much, since our first visit was only a few days for a music video Harrison produced for Rosalía," Mimi shares. "That initial taste gave us some direction and inspiration, so we knew we had to come back for a longer, more thorough exploration."
