Five years after Tori Chanenchuk and Jonny Nierenberg first met as Dartmouth undergraduate student-athletes, he proposed at Il Cantinori in Greenwich Village—their favorite restaurant in the city. “I always order the pappardelle, so Jonny had the menu customized,” Tori says of the proposal. “In the pasta section
: 'Tori, will you marry me?’ as one of the pastas. After the waiter handed us the menu it took me a few seconds, but once I found ‘the pasta,’ Jonny got down on one knee.”
Immediately after getting engaged, the couple knew they wanted to get married at Jonny’s family’s home in Costa Palmas, Mexico. To bring their spring destination vision to life, the pair enlisted the help of Over The Moon The List Planner JZ Events and designer Marianna Idirin. Over The Moon The List Photographer Ryan Ray lensed every colorful moment.
Tori wanted her wedding wardrobe to reflect her love for the setting and worked with CLG Creative to curate each look. “My Lela Rose lace sheath felt classic yet easy for the ceremony,” she says. “We followed that up with a Ralph Lauren reception dress that was embroidered yet fit like swimwear. I even donned a bikini under my LaQuan Smith after-party look, just in case we felt the sudden urge to jump in the pool!” Hairstylist Vanessa Ocando and makeup artist Maria Riskakis gave Tori a flawless bridal glam look.
Adhering to the black-tie dress code yet accounting for the warm weather, Jonny wore a custom Brunello Cucinelli beige tuxedo with Giorgio Armani derbies.
On May 17, 2025, Tori and Jonny wed at the beach club, which sits between an estuary and the Sea of Cortez. “We wanted a simpler chuppah and our florist, Pina Cate, created the perfect balance of a classic yet beautiful chuppah for the beach,” the bride gushes.
Walking down the aisle with her parents was one of Tori’s favorite parts of the day. “Seeing Jonny standing in front of the chuppah with the water in the background and sun beginning to set over the mountains, everything truly felt perfect and any nerves that I had melted away.”
Once the two were married, the setting changed completely to Lucha Libre, where pineapple margaritas awaited. Then guests moved into the couple’s version of an open-air palapa. “We wanted our guests to be able to dance under the stars and embrace the feeling of being in the middle of the desert,” Tori says.
Sound House of Élan Artists played, as surf and turf was served to everyone. “For dessert, we had Funfetti wedding cake, our favorite!” Tori exclaims.
After the reception came to a formal close, the party moved again to the club, Chiki’s. “DJ Natti was amazing, and everyone was dancing for hours,” Tori says of the fête. “Jonny and I then spent the night at one of Costa Palmas’s huts on the beach.”
