This is a quintessential image of Round Hill, Jamaica. These awnings are iconic, and they remind me of everything I love about this place. It is chic and classic without being too serious or fussy, which is exactly how we wanted our wedding weekend to feel. This is the reception desk where you are greeted whenever you pull up by the most welcoming staff, always offering up cool towels and a tray of rum punch.

One of the greatest things about having a destination wedding is getting to have what feels like one big long vacation with family and friends. I loved getting to spend days at the beach and grabbing lunch with our guests in the days leading up to the big celebration. Jack and I have been dating since high school, so it was fun to watch so many people from all different seasons of our lives hanging out together. After being a bridesmaid many times, I also enjoyed the permission to wear white all weekend, specifically this white Marysia Swim scalloped swimsuit.

Our guests traveled from far and wide, so we greeted them with a welcome bag of all the island essentials, like rum and plantain chips. All of our stationery, including the welcome letter and itinerary we included in the welcome gift, featured original illustrations by Charlotte-based illustrator Champagne Maker. We loved her rendering of Round Hill’s facade and classic green and white awnings. We are also obsessed with our English bulldog Gus, and since we couldn’t bring him with us to Jamaica, we put his cute face on each gift tag!

Jack wanted to serve hand-rolled cigars at the wedding as well as to take advantage of the Cuban cigars available down there, so we created these matchboxes, bringing in the Round Hill dark green as well as the fan palm.

This is one of many gorgeous winding pathways on the property. Round Hill was formerly a sugar cane plantation, and I am always struck by how lush, tropical, and green it is.

The beach is tucked away in the cove, so it feels private and serene, and I felt like we had the whole place all to ourselves all weekend.

Most of the resort has an open-air feeling, as seen here, where the library doors are flung open wide to let in the breeze. The interiors are also something to behold. Designed by Ralph Lauren, each room feels crisp, clean, and classic.

This is a view of the sunset from the first night’s welcome party, when everyone was arriving on the island. We hosted this in a villa that had an absolutely breathtaking view. I think it was the perfect way to greet our guests.

This is one of my favorite moments: the beginning of the weekend. This was a relaxed tiki party in a beautiful spot, the epitome of a Round Hill vacation. We drank signature rum punch and Red Stripe beer, and ate local fare like jerk chicken and red snapper fish tacos. The dress was island chic, and the fun we had this night set the tone for the rest of the weekend.

Here Jack is in full vacation mode, proudly sporting his tropical print shirt. He actually gifted each of his groomsmen a similar tropical shirt to wear to this party and had a great time picking out patterns to match the personality of each of his friends.

This is the girls’ villa where we got ready. Truth be told, it is also where we hosted late night pool parties into the wee hours.

I adored these Alexandre Birman heels. They were elegant, feminine, but also comfortable.

When picking my wedding dress, I thought I would wear something understated and simple, but when I decided to have my bridesmaids in white, I decided I needed something a little more distinctly bridal so that I would stand out. In spite of my original anti-lace stance, I selected this dress because of its amazing train.

This was one of my favorite parts of the day. These girls are my closest friends and family. All of the girls in this photo watched our relationship grow over time, so it was just special to have them there. Jack and I have been dating for so long, so his sisters are like my own. These Yumi Kim robes were my gifts to my bridesmaids, and hanging out in them was one of my favorite parts of the day.

This villa overlooks the bay and had an incredible view. The bougainvillea was in full bloom, and it was just a gorgeous, relaxing place to hang out all day while getting ready.

It was fun gathering friends from all the different phases of my life and seeing them get along so well. I also loved the colorful local art around the villa.

Here I am just about to get into my dress. I imagine I am wondering what trouble Jack is getting into.

I thought it would be too formal to wear my hair up, so I pinned a few pearls to keep it out of face because it was so hot. My curls didn’t exactly hold up to the heat, but I was having too much fun to care.

Jack is probably grinning because he is up to no good! I love that smile in spite of (or maybe because of) its mischievous nature. When you make Jack really laugh, it is such a victory because his smile just lights up the room.

Jack likes to have all of his work shirts embroidered with his initials, JRS, a detail I love. I think it is adorable.

All of these guys are super rowdy but so much fun, and Jack had a blast getting ready with them that day. The Red Stripe flowed freely.

Here my mom is helping me into my dress. She has seen Jack and I grow up together over the years, and I know she loved this moment.

I loved those bouquets. The florist snuck in lots of local foraged greenery, a nod to the island flora without being too cheesy about it.

For a moment it started getting cloudy. I was excited but nervous; not nervous to marry Jack, because I was very confident about that, but nervous to see all of my plans be put into motion. Oh, and nervous about those clouds...luckily my worries were unfounded, and the clouds actually cooled things down.

All of my bridesmaids wore white, and some guests remarked later that they looked like angels coming down the aisle. (I had to laugh at the irony of this, as I have known these ladies long enough to know that angels they are most certainly not.)

We had the ceremony on the spa lawn overlooking the water. After the fall of a few worrisome raindrops, the clouds literally parted, and the sun emerged. It was like God cut us a break!

A local steel drum band, the Steel Birds, played at the ceremony and cocktail hour. The really set the mood!

Our aisle was lined with petals, and we opted not to have an arbor to avoid obstructing the view. We positioned the ceremony between two trees, which was lovely and also gave guests some shade.

This is my cousin’s son, also named Jack. He was the ring bearer but thought his job was to be a “ring bear,” so he kept growling at people. He took his job very seriously! We gave him the nickname Jamaican Jack.

Another shot of those gorgeous blue waters!

This is right before I walked down the aisle. My sister walked with little Jack because he was nervous, and he definitely stole the show! I loved that we decided to stagger our bridesmaids and groomsmen, mixing them together as one big happy group.

I love this picture so much! I am such a daddy’s girl. Here he is walking me down the aisle, and he couldn’t stop laughing. His laughter was contagious, and I was totally at ease on his arm.

Standing up there, Jack and I were giddy and kept looking around, overwhelmed by all of the excitement and having trouble focusing. After knowing him so much of my life, it was truly surreal to be standing there in this gorgeous setting marrying him, like a scene from a movie. The Reverend kept having to remind us to pay attention to the the task at hand.

As we exited, our friends took it upon themselves to pick up the petals and pelt us with them, which was typical and definitely not part of the plan, but joyous nonetheless. I think Jack is either fist pumping or cheering. We were both elated.

This is another one of my favorite shots. Jack is usually a little camera shy, but one of my friends sweetly reported that while watching us running around taking these, she thought “Jack looks like there is nowhere else in the world he would rather be than spinning you around.”

You know your girlfriends love you when they leave the cocktail hour just to take more photos with you for kicks!

I love how this is not overly posed; everyone is just laughing and having fun. Baby Jack also steals the show once again with his little crouch.

I have this framed in our house! This is Jack with his dad and brother. They have always been close, so this photo is quite special to us.

We are both on cloud nine here. It was so amazing to be there, married to my best friend in the most beautiful place I could imagine!

We lined the pathway to the reception with luminaires. Guests walked along the water line with the sun setting to the left and a lush tropical forest on the right. It was magical.

The view along the walk to the reception was just gorgeous at sunset.

The light in Jamaica, especially at sunset, is just unreal; so warm and beautiful. I looked forward to this each evening.

The reception was at the Hanover Terrace, which overlooks the water from above and is perched in a way that makes you feel like you are in a treehouse. We did Chinese lanterns in the trees, fan palms for centerpieces, white lounge seating, and lots of candlelight. It was cozy and intimate.

What can I say—our friends like a good party! This was one of the most fun nights I have ever had from the minute the band kicked off.
45 of 46
At the risk of sounding cheesy, I just loved stealing away to be with Jack throughout our reception. We had so many people we were thrilled to catch up with and see, but it was really special when we got a moment alone to take it all in.

My girlfriend Hannah is notorious for her belly flops. World-renowned, even. What I am most proud of is how she really commits to her craft. This was one of her finest flops, and this night swim was one for the books.
