Maggie Varvel and Derek Vincent are getting ready for their destination wedding this month at her family’s incredible OTM Directory Venue Le Mas des Poiriers in Avignon, France. Maggie had grown up summering in the region with family, including her sister content creator Samantha Varvel and mother Shauna Varvel, who took on the passion project of restoring the blue shuttered-home for three years. And ahead of their celebration on the property, Maggie is giving us a glimpse into the big day and sharing her Dream Registry curation.
But their story starts more than two years ago. Even though Maggie and Derek knew of each other as university students, a romantic spark didn’t occur until she moved to NYC in 2024 and ran into him at church. “Shortly after, Derek started texting me to check in on how the move was going,” Maggie shares. “Those texts soon turned into making plans with friends, and little did I know, he had been planning how he was going to ask me out.” After a first date at the Chelsea Piers Driving Range, followed by gelato, the city became the exciting backdrop to their budding romance.

After a year together, Derek proposed to Maggie on October 5, 2025, on the rooftop of the Metropolitan Museum of Art—a favorite date spot for the two. And once engaged, they knew there was no better place to exchange vows than Le Mas des Poiriers.
In preparation for the destination nuptials, the NYC-based bride-to-be put together her Dream Registry, led by her self-proclaimed “feminine, romantic, and elegant” aesthetic. She adds, “I gravitate toward fresh colors, flattering silhouettes, and timeless pieces. I love a classic East Coast-styled look for everyday but enjoy mixing in bold/exciting pieces for special events.”

Q:
How do you like to go about decorating your spaces?
I like decorating in a way that feels collected over time rather than perfectly planned out. I usually start with clean, simple pieces and then mix in unique, colorful ,and warm items that have meaning to me while also inviting to guests. I love incorporating antique finds, sentimental pieces, and decorative collectibles I've picked up while traveling. Those are the things that give a space personality and make it feel more interesting and lived-in. For me, it's all about balancing newer pieces with older, one-of-a-kind items to create a space that feels comfortable, personal, and lived in/homey. I want someone to enter my space and feel right at home.

Q:
Can you explain why you chose a few specific products for your dream registry?
The moment I saw this wedding platter I fell in love. I love a custom wedding/registry gift and feel this is such a special piece to commemorate one of the biggest events of your life. I can see this hung up on a decorative plate wall or set up in a kitchen for special occasions. I love the idea of a green kitchen or living room and think this is a timeless piece that will be forever cherished. Portmeirion dishes were also always in our home growing up. My mother developed a large collection of items and has now split them up between my sisters and I. They will always hold a place in my heart, bringing a nostalgic and personal feel to my kitchen. I love adding to the original collection my mother passed down and hope one day my children love the fun colors and botanics seen on the various collections as I did.

Maggie leaves us with first-hand advice for couples currently making their own Over The Moon Registries: “One of the most helpful things we did when building our registry was talking to family and friends for suggestions and looking through other registries online for inspiration. Getting recommendations from people you trust is a great way to figure out the essentials, while seeing what others have chosen can spark ideas for those fun, unique pieces that make a home feel like your own. I’d also recommend starting with the larger items you know you’ll use for years to come, like pots and pans, mixers, plates, and then filling in with the more personal, sentimental, and style-driven pieces that reflect who you are as a couple.”
