Aerin Lauder Shares Her Dream Registry on Her 30th Wedding Anniversary

JUNE 1, 2026

30 years ago today, Aerin Lauder, the founder and creative director of her namesake luxury lifestyle brand and granddaughter of beauty legend Estée Lauder, married Eric Zinterhofer, a founding partner of Searchlight Capital, out east in a beautiful, classic celebration that has inspired brides ever since. To honor their three decades of marriage, we’re looking back at her nuptials and sharing an updated version of her Over The Moon Dream Registry—with AERIN must-haves aplenty.

No stranger to the OTM Registry, Aerin hosted our shopping event at her home in the Hamptons two summers ago with Emilia Wickstead. There, she walked brides and engaged couples through her registry favorites and even cut a wedding-worthy cake. As the sun set, cocktails and a seated dinner followed, served on AERIN dinnerware, of course.

Turning back to Aerin’s anniversary . . . First things first: Aerin met Eric at the University of Pennsylvania, and the two dated for two years before they got engaged. “He proposed in Paris. We had just gone to one of my favorite restaurants,” Aerin remembers. “The first person I called afterwards was my grandmother Estée.”

Aerin grew up going to her parent’s home on Long Island and always knew it would be the setting for her wedding one day. “We got married in June in a white tent filled with potted garden roses and peonies,” she says. “The tent was facing the pond nestled in a field of wildflowers. It was magical!”

Aerin actually met Oscar de la Renta for the first time while she was looking for her own wedding dress. “He was so kind to me. It was the beginning of a long-lasting friendship,” Aerin shares. “His designs had the most romantic and elegant sensibility; he truly understood effortless beauty and how to make a woman feel her best. Ultimately, I chose a custom duchess satin off the shoulder gown. Oscar even gave me a sketch of my wedding dress and the most special note that I will always cherish.”

Eric was in white tie with a blue bachelor button flower on his lapel. Aerin’s attendants were also in Oscar de la Renta, wearing pale blue sleeveless looks.

“The ceremony was intimate and full of children. It took place in a beautiful white tent filled with potted garden roses and peonies, facing the pond nestled in a field of wildflowers,” Aerin recalls. Then guests moved into an adjacent tent for a beautiful formal dinner. The evening, which was planned by Robert Isabel, was refreshingly old fashioned. “There were tons of flowers, and beautiful vintage glass and silver covered the tables,” says Aerin. Caviar and smoked salmon, roasted chicken, mashed potatoes, and peas were served for dinner, and an orchestra played throughout the meal to create an Old World ambiance.

There were only a few speeches given by the couple’s parents and the best man, which were all very touching and sentimental. After dinner, everyone moved into another tent for dessert (wedding cake and watermelon sorbet), Champagne, and dancing. The newlyweds kicked things off with “As Time Goes By,” and then the bride spun around the floor with her father to “Thank Heaven for Little Girls.”

Afterward, the bride and groom cut the cake, and guests danced the night away. At around midnight, the newlyweds made their exit and then happily jetted off to Bali and Bora Bora for their honeymoon, with stops in Los Angeles, London, and Singapore along the way—making for an unforgettable trip and the perfect way to kick off their life as husband and wife.

Entertaining

Hostessing has never been easier or more elegant.

Q: How would you describe your aesthetic?

My wedding was elegant, feminine and timeless. When I look back at photos, I always think that my style has remained consistent through the years. Even today, I would still make many of the same choices that I had when I was first married.

Q: How do you like to go about decorating your spaces?

I usually start my design process with the home’s surroundings. I like to bring the outdoors in and incorporate elements of nature that reflect the location. I also take a layered approach by mixing and matching different colors and textures, to give a room depth and personality. Another one of my favorite ways to do this is by mixing family heirlooms and heritage pieces with newer finds and recent discoveries.

Q: Can you explain why you chose a few specific products for your dream registry?

Curating an at-home bar is one of my favorite ways to create a warm and welcoming environment when hosting family and friends. The Carina Shagreen Small Round Tray is the perfect item to add to a registry since it is versatile, functional and adds a stylish touch when entertaining. I also always have the Classic Shagreen Small Jewelry Box on my vanity. Especially when starting such a new and exciting chapter, it is important to create a space for yourself that feels personal, luxurious, and intentional.

Getting ready is often the best part . . .

Aerin leaves us with sage advice for couples currently making their own Over The Moon Registries: “You can never go wrong with a neutral color palette. This is one of the many reasons I love all of our cream shagreen items; they look pretty in any setting and with any decorating style. I also think of gold as a beautiful, modern neutral, which is a concept that I learned from my grandmother, Estée. No matter the decorating approach you choose later on, pieces with versatility will fit in seamlessly and elevate your overall sensibility.”
